Why are negative parallax shots short?

Hi: very noob here, and new to the forum. (Forum looks great. I'm surprised I haven't run across it before now.) I've looked all over the web and in a few books on 3D but have not been able to find an answer. Why is the duration of shots done in negative parallax so brief compared to positive-parallax shots? (I guess I also need some validation about this observation. Am I wrong?)

I'm guessing that part of the answer is that negative parallax moments are supposed to be surprising: hands, spears, and other objects coming out of the screen at us, and so on. But is that the only reason? Is there some comfort threshold crossed if an object stays in negative parallax too long? Or is there anything else I'm missing?

    Thanks.
