Embedded vs Onboard Recorder

Hi! I've read about Embedded and Onboard Recorders. Hi!

but my question is -what is exactly the difference between embedded and onboard recorders?
is it that onboard recorders are only recording, while embedded recorders also allow you to control the camera/to watch previews?
