Is it possible to take two images that form a stereoscopic picture and get the depth information from it?

Kind of, although you aren't going to be able to say "that tree is x meters away" just from measuring the displacement. You can measure relative distances and estimate depth, but that's about as close as you can get.

What is it you are trying to do exactly?

BTW, welcome to the forums goodmax2006!

I was thinking along the lines of creating an autostereogram from the depth information of a stereoscopic photo

basically what i am asking is if there is a way to reproduce the illusion in terms of depth information using a computer, like a grayscale representation of the fused images.
